Johnnie L. Turner - Employee Spotlight April 2021
Johnnie L. Turner - Employee Spotlight April 2021 Mr. Johnnie L. Turner has been with Home Furniture Plus Bedding’s Airline location in Baton Rouge for over ten years assembling, stocking, loading, unloading, and securing customer load outs along with maintaining a very clean, neat, and organized warehouse.

Harry Wiggins, store manager, says:
“Mr. Johnnie is a very well respected member of the team by all employees. He can be counted on to help provide guidance to the less experienced team members and is always trying to stay busy. He has a very strong work ethic and sets a great example for others to follow.”

These work ethics flourish to this day, as one can easily see in Johnnie's work and in his attitude.

Johnny says:
"I make sure to thank everyone for shopping at Home Furniture. It's a friendly place, like family. Everyone is concerned, and we care for each other."

Before joining our team, Johnnie already had 40 years of employment at a recycling plant, but it was when he worked in agriculture as a youth for just $5 a day that he learned the value of strong work ethics.

Additionally, Johnnie and his wife, Lola, both have master's degrees from Christian Bible College in Baton Rouge, along with Johnnie having also earned his doctorate at Saint John Bible Institute of Baton Rouge. They are both pastors with a combined 43 years of ministry at two area churches. It's not uncommon to hear customers addressing Johnnie as "Hey Rev!" daily.

Johnnie adds,
"Not only has the ministry prepared me for my future, but I'm able to help others with their future. It ain't about me. It's all about the Man upstairs."

Born and raised in East Feliciana Parish, Johnnie resides in Baton Rouge with his wife of 38 years, Lola.

Thank you, Johnnie, for leading by example in both your actions and your attitude!
Linda Smalley- Employee Spotlight April 2021
Linda Smalley- Employee Spotlight April 2021 Some of the attributes of being a great receptionist consist of: having a positive attitude; possessing good listening skills; exercising effective communication; being able to work under pressure; and having excellent organizational skills. Linda Smalley, one of our receptionists at our distribution center, meets all of these requirements and more!

Prior to joining our team in January 2017, Linda was a receptionist in the financing business for 13 years, banking business for 20 years, and the automotive business for 10 years. Her skills came as a great asset for our company, but it is her personality and disposition that makes all the difference.

Linda says, “I love working with people and for people. I love serving our customers.” Additionally, she adds, “Not everyone is good with customers, but one thing we all must do is listen to the customer.”

Dwayne Arceneaux, Distribution Center Manager of Home Furniture Plus Bedding, says, “From Day one, Mrs. Linda has been a breath of fresh air within our facility and our company. She is professional, compassionate, competent, and thorough. Each day she arrives with a tireless desire to help both our customers and her fellow employees. I believe Home Furniture is where Mrs. Linda was always meant to be. She understands our customer service expectations and exceeds them daily. Our facility wouldn’t be the same without her.”

Born and raised in Lafayette, LA, Linda resides there with Frank, her husband of 58 years.

While her main hobbies are spending time with her family and shopping, Linda also stays busy with her involvement in her Pokeno Club, the Altar Society of her church along with being a member of the Ladies of Knights of Columbus, and of course, keeping up with the LSU Tigers.

Thank you, Linda, for your warm smile and for setting the example of what it takes to make good things happen for our customers.
Linda Thibodeaux – Employee Spotlight March 2021
Linda Thibodeaux – Employee Spotlight March 2021 The next time you see one of our Home Furniture Plus Bedding delivery trucks on the road or feel the comfortable A/C or heating blowing in any of our eight locations across East Texas and Louisiana, chances are, Linda Thibodeaux has helped keep them running smoothly. Linda joined Home Furniture on January 27th, 2007. Formerly a long-time Auto Zone employee, she is one of several of our DC staff who “came along with the building” (so to speak).

As our Chainwide Operations Office Manager, just some of her responsibilities include:

• Takes care of all business cards for the chain
• Oversees Candidate pre-employment screening
• Employee Time & attendance processing
• Accounts Payable processing
• Purchasing & maintenance for all company vehicles
• Purchasing & maintenance for all equipment and facilities
• Customer service solutions assistance

Craig Holston, Human Resources Manager, says:

“Linda Thibodeaux is part Energizer Bunny and part Pac Man! Her motor is always running full-throttle and she gobbles up any task thrown her way with a great attitude and a smile. She plays an important role affecting every employee in the company as well as many vendors and customers. Home Furniture is lucky to have such a great asset as Linda!”

To know Linda is to know that she is passionate about her job and for all of us who work for Home Furniture. When she is not working, her passion is all about spending time with her family, especially her grandkids, 11 year old Rees, 9-year-old Piers, and 2-year-old Ava. And then there’s fishing! Let’s just say that the fish at Toledo Bend or the Atchafalaya Basin swim in fear of Linda Thibodeaux!

“I like to keep our trucks and stores well maintained and alive!” says Linda.

Born in Arnaudville, La. and raised in Carencro, La., Linda resides there with her husband, Ricky, and their dog, Duke. They have two adult children, Mandy and Jordan.
Katherine Karr Langham – Employee Spotlight March 2021
Katherine Karr Langham – Employee Spotlight March 2021

Atmosphere. Ambience. Character. These three words accurately describe the relaxed and warm environment that one feels when shopping at our Beaumont and Nederland, Texas locations. And this is all done from design…. thanks to the talent and skills of Decorator Katherine Karr Langham.

Larry Domingue, manager of our Beaumont store, says, “Katherine is a great asset to our Texas stores.  She is one of those ‘behind the scenes’ people.  Because we only see the finished project, most are unaware of how much thought and planning Katherine does to make the stores look great.  As she goes about her daily work of improving our showrooms, Katherine does not shy away from assisting customers and our salespeople who are facing design challenges.

Bill Gragg, manager of our Nederland store, adds, “Katherine’s decorating ability is incredible. She has always kept our showroom updated with the newest trends.  Need advice on what colors to paint your rooms at home?  Just ask Katherine.  She has been such a blessing to Home Furniture and our customers.”

Katherine’s artistic passion is beautifully revealed in the results of her work, and the results speak for themselves. Whether a room setting at the store or a personal commissioned piece of art for a client, one can easily attain that her passion is creating.  Says Katherine, “I love helping to make someone’s house into a home. I love helping others discover their own trend in design whether it's interior design, floor plans, or artwork.” Her medium of choice these days consists of watercolor, acrylic, and even 3D paper collage.

Additionally, when asked to share the “One Thing” that we may not know, Katherine replied, “I was a ballroom and Latin dance instructor…a long time ago.”

Katherine began her work at Home Furniture Plus Bedding as the decorator for our Beaumont store in July of 2005. In 2007 she began decorating our Nederland store as well.  Born and raised in Houston, Katherine has resided in Lumberton, Texas since 1993 with her husband, Thomas, and son Jack, along with their two dogs, Mandy and Kalli.

Thank you, Katherine, for making our showrooms look and feel like “Home” and for making it easier for our customers to buy, and easier for our salespeople to sell.

August Mosley – Employee Spotlight February 2021
August Mosley – Employee Spotlight February 2021 One of Home Furniture Plus Bedding’s consistent top performers in sales, Mr. August Mosley, has been with our Beaumont location since September, 2000.

Larry Domingue, manager of our Beaumont location, says:

“August is the very first salesperson that I recruited and hired after becoming the store manager in 2000. If I never do anything right again, that first hire was my best decision ever! August has a reputation among his peers and his customers as the ultimate professional. He treats everyone with respect. I have leaned on him over the years for wise counsel in matters that are work related and even personal. His advice has given me good guidance throughout the years.

August always has a relaxed and calm demeanor. Customers always comment on how patient and helpful he is. August’s coworkers all comment often on how they would like to be more like him. You never know if he is having a good day or a bad day. You always get the same August. August just has a way with people.

One of the nicknames that his coworkers gave him years ago was “The Professor.” Whenever new merchandise arrives, August is the first to go over and begin to look at all of the features and benefits the new items offer. He has consistently worked on his craft for decades. This dedication has resulted in consistency and excellence for many years.

August recently informed me that he will be retiring at the end of April. I will miss him in so many ways, yet, I am excited that he will enter a new chapter in his life that is well deserved. Congratulations on a great career and a job well done!”

Prior to August’s many years in the furniture field, August was busy serving the public as a police officer for 7 years in Baytown, Texas along with serving as Chief in Ames, Texas.

August already had a treasure trove of experience in the furniture industry before joining the Home Furniture Plus Bedding team. For 14 years, he managed a staff of 18 at American TV and Appliance in Michigan, and banked 2 years of sales at a local competitor in Beaumont.

Born and raised in Devers, Texas, August resides there with his wife, Carla, and their dog, Buster. Also, if you’re ever at our Nederland, Texas location, you may run into someone that resembles August! His daughter, Luci Laughlin, has followed in her fathers footsteps and works in sales as well.

When asked to share the one thing about himself that his coworkers may not be aware of, August replied:

“Well, while I was a police officer, I had my own radio talk show called ‘The Baytown Police Department and You’ on KBUK in Baytown. Plus, I also ended up hosting the Sunday Morning Gospel show along with DJing in the afternoons for their Country and Western program.”

Outside of Home Furniture Plus Bedding, August is very proud of having bowled a perfect 300 game in his days of being an avid bowler. His main hobbies these days consist of fishing and golfing with his sons.

August says:

“Thank You Ged and Karol Fleming for creating a business that makes it easy for customers to purchase and a culture where all employees strive for Total Customer Satisfaction.
I feel very fortunate to have worked for this great company, Home Furniture Plus Bedding.”

Thank you, August, from all of us at Home Furniture Plus Bedding.
Flint Davis – February 2021 Home Furniture Plus Bedding Employee Spotlight
Flint Davis – February 2021 Home Furniture Plus Bedding Employee Spotlight Flint’s journey with Home Furniture began September 21st, 1998 at our Lake Charles location as the store’s very first customer service manager. Not only did he succeed in fulfilling the position, he also established the footprint of disciplines and processes which are used to this day at our company’s chainwide customer service department located at the DC.

When Flint was promoted to Customer Relations Director in February 2003, he accepted the responsibility of establishing and training a full time staff to service and support the needs of our growing company.

Born and raised in Lake Charles, Flint now resides in Lafayette with Toni, his wife of 28 years along with their daughter, Ashley, and their peekapoo dog, Bentley.

While the past 23 years have offered both challenges and rewards, this former Marine of 8 years of service within Desert Storm/Desert Shield has used his experience to not only train those for the job, but to also train them for “life.”

As Flint says:

“God has given me a platform and opportunity to use my gifts of training, encouragement, and leadership. I don’t want to die with all my gifts. I want to share them all so that others can share them as well and make others better. That’s what pushes me! I love people and I really care for them and strive to help them to become better through relationships, character building and to become good model citizens…to be able to witness a bunch of caterpillars in cocoons flourish into beautiful butterflies.”

An avid learner, an effective and encouraging teacher, and an organized leader. Flint’s demeanor shows a quiet man of God who listens to learn with the results shown more by his actions than by merely his words.

From being hired as the Lake Charles Customer Service Manager to being promoted as the company’s Customer Relations Director, Flint Davis’ 20+ years with Home Furniture has undoubtedly helped our company expand its services and capabilities for both the betterment of our customers as well as all of us who are lucky enough to learn from him.
